The 420 Obsession: Popular Cultural References.
What started as an undercover union of a handful of youths in the 1970's to get high, slowly slipped through the ageless boundaries of culture and generation, to bloom into a widely recognized movement.
Oh! Is it 420 by the way?
The era we live in is heavily dominated by oppressive law and orders that dictate the way one must live his life. This hasn't deterred pushing the counter-culture identification and obsession with the ubiquitous Cannabis Culture.
The term "420" has evolved from a meeting time for a group of teens in California in pursuit of weed to a code term used to refer to marijuana in general — a term popularized by the magazine High Times — to the point that April 20 (4/20) has practically become a holiday for pot smokers!
Here is a list collating several pop culture references and anecdotes to stir the obsessively high mind.
Enjoy!
* Pulp Fiction 420 : It is widely believed that several clocks (not all) appearing in the scenes of the cult classic movie - Pulp Fiction - were set to point to 4:20. So is true for another classic Hollywood flick - Lost in Translation.
